How to choose paint for gypsum board and how to paint walls made of this material? Here there are some nuances that must be taken into account.
So, to paint drywall, you can not use oil-based paints. If the walls have some defects or if there were errors in puttying, you should not use glossy paint, which will emphasize all the irregularities. The matte paint will be able to hide these small defects.
You can use alkyd enamel paint, water-dispersion paint or water-emulsion paint. It is preferable to use the latter type of paint, and below we will tell you how to paint the walls of drywall with it.
So, you’ll need water-based paint at the rate of 1 kg per 5 sq. km.M, paint tray or mesh, paint mixer, stepladder, a few different width brushes, a long wool roller or paint sprayer, a tray for work, safety glasses and gloves.
Drywall is highly absorbent, so before you paint it needs to prepare, otherwise the paint will lie unevenly and stains will form. For this purpose it is necessary to prim the surface, putty all seams and walls, and sand them.
The paint is prepared according to the instructions — stir or dilute with water. It is recommended to mix the paint with a construction mixer, equipped with a special nozzle. First, with a small brush, paint the joints between the walls and the ceiling, and then, 2-5 cm away from the ceiling, repeat the procedure, but already with a roller. This will mark the boundaries and allow you to paint the walls without touching the ceiling. Next, dip the paint roller into the paint, use the grid to remove the excess and paint the wall in W-strokes, starting from the top. If you do two coats of paint, the first coat is applied horizontally, the second coat vertically. If there are three layers, start with vertical motions, the second layer is applied horizontally, and the third — again vertically.
And finally let’s talk about some rules for painting drywall. Throughout the process, use one roller and do not stop, otherwise the pattern of the wall will be different, which is due to the different reflective layers of different rollers. Do not turn the roller upside down and work only one side of it. If an area of the wall has begun to dry out, do not paint it again. If you violate at least one of these rules, the wall can be a clear or not so clear stain.
